The Carbon County Arts Guild continues to grow with a membership of over 300 artists and is fast becoming the leading small- town art center for residents and visitors to south central Montana and Northern Wyoming. As an art facility, the Guild presents an ever-changing gallery of regional art for supporters and assists artists in the building of their own personal collection. Their focus is on a variety of educational opportunities for all ages and for all artists, with a special emphasis on youth art education and art appreciation. As a gallery, the Guild is dedicated to building and maintaining a permanent art collection, relative to our history as an art center and to the historic train depot which houses the Carbon County Arts Guild and Depot Gallery.

Our Mission The mission of the Carbon County Historical Society & Museum is to preserve and communicate the history of the Carbon County area. Carbon County Historical Society & Museum History History is not just about dates, names, and places. Preservation is not just about bricks and mortar. Both are about human values, about relationships between individuals and their communities that stretch from the past through the present to the future. The Carbon County Historical Society & Museum has done just that. The museum was first established in 1959 by Alice Greenough to house the collection of her world-renowned rodeo family. The Carbon County Historical Society was formed in 1974 and took over the museum facility in 1980. In 1990, the three-story Labor Temple building was gifted to the Carbon County Historical Society by an anonymous donor. The Labor Temple was built in 1909, entirely by the Red Lodge Miners Local No. 1771, and put on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The historical society reopened the museum`s doors with a newly remodeled basement and first floor in 1999. The museum is the home to the Greenough and Linderman rodeo collections, the Waples family gun and projectile point collection, an interactive coal and hard rock mine exhibit, the Carbon County archives, and much more. The staff assists with family genealogy and historic research. The gift shop has a large variety of Carbon County, Montana and Old West historical books and gifts.

Hey and Howdy, Thank you so much for your interest in our beautiful little corner of the world. Red Lodge, nestled in the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains, is a wonderful place to visit if you are looking for family fun, a place to touch the wild, or just a chance to let your hair down. Whether you are wearing Birkenstocks or cowboy boots, you will find something to do here. (Although downtown is paved and we even have sidewalks, Jimmy Choos are probably not a great idea!) In winter the road ends here. Downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, sledding and sleigh riding are just the short list of activities that you can do when visiting us. In summer we revel in the Beartooth Pass opening. We are only 68 miles from Yellowstone Park, but plan on a good two hours drive as the Pass is stunning in high mountain vistas, rocky cliffs, and jeweled lakes. The Custer National Forest is a haven for wildlife including elk, moose, mountain goats, big horn sheep, bears (black and grizzly), mountain lions and wolves. Golden marmots are often seen dashing across the trails. Golden and bald eagles often visit our area, as well as sandhill cranes and blue herons. So . . . take your time, drive slowly, give pedestrians and wildlife the right of way, and enjoy your visit. If you have any questions or you would like help in planning your trip, please call the Red Lodge Area Chamber of Commerce at 1.406.446.1718 or stop in at the Visitors Center/Chamber Office at the north end of town. If you know when you plan on experiencing Red Lodge, call us so we can tell you what is happening in the area! Welcome to the Beartooth Recreational Trails Association The Beartooth Recreational Trails Association (BRTA) was organized in 2002 for two primary purposes: 1) to continue the winter operations of the Red Lodge Nordic Center (RLNC), and 2) to promote year round non-motorized trail systems along the Beartooth front. We work closely with the Forest Service, the City of Red Lodge and other organizations to create and expand future trails. We have attracted many supporters and are an official 501(c)3 non-profit. The RLNC continues to grow with new skiers and new trails, and we are involved with Rocky Fork Trails, the Red Lodge trail planning and development process. Support BRTA and keep nordic skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, biking, and horseback riding priorities in our community! Sign up for our electronic newsletter for events, trail conditions, volunteer opportunities and more! Or attend a monthly BRTA Board meeting – every second Wednesday, 6:30 at the RLACF building across the street from the post office (13th & Oakes Ave). Want some fresh air, this is the perfect family activity. Click here for more information on the Nordic ski center.

Artist Statement Welcome to my website and taking the time to look at my photography. I photograph a number of subjects which include wildlife, landscapes and portraits of people including weddings, family gatherings, senior or graduation, children and babies. I also do event photography which includes schools, sports, ski joring and have done motorcycle events on the Beartooth Highway. I enjoy all types of photography and have been doing it professionally for almost 30 years. Most of that time has been with film cameras but for the last 7 years I have been totally digital and I love it. Not that there is anything wrong or bad with shooting film, but I do embrace the new technology. I particularly enjoy the nature photography and am blessed to live in an area that still has a great degree of wilderness and wildness. I love driving the Beartooth Scenic Highway as well as going to Yellowstone National Park or the Pryor Mountains for photographic outings. I have been fortunate to be able to travel around the country and to some other countries and while I have enjoyed those trips immensely, I am always reminded on my next trip to the mountains of how lucky I am to have all of this in my backyard. My approach to nature photography is to let it come to me. I photograph what nature gives me. One time I went to Yellowstone in the fall and was looking for elk and bears but the clouds in Hayden Valley were so beautiful with the golden meadows and Yellowstone River that I spent all my time photographing them. Hope you enjoy exploring the galleries and please, if you have any questions please give us a call or email. Thank you Merv
